About the Design Educator
I began my journey as a design educator in my early 20's by teaching fine art classes in small groups while completing my B.A. After working a decade in the design industry, I became an adjunct design instructor at AiCA-SD while earning a M.A.Ed. This 14-year experience as a design instructor has allowed me to develop a discerning eye for excellent design, mastering the big 3 Adobe products, and learning more from my students than I could ever give. I support and embrace the classroom rich with diversity and celebrate a pluralistic society where each individual is valued. By providing competency-based education, carefully reviewing course competencies and planning each class in an organized, coordinated manner, my design students can excel. I encourage reciprocity and cooperation among students and believe in active learning techniques such as visual and kinesthetic. Design and software training are offered outside of my classroom. I have found that by setting high standards and being firm and consistent, the students perform well and succeed in the class and building a knowledge base for academic and career achievement.
We creatives think on multiple levels and are incredible problem-solvers. We have the power to invent new products and re-imagine the environments we live in.
